Teachers' lounge, cafeteria, or canteen can be a tricky place for quiet teachers. You love to enjoy your food in peace without having to listen to conversations that have nothing to do with you. Having conversations is not something to be avoided at all times, but sitting at a table with a group of people when you are trying to eat and not planning to socialize can be too much or overstimulating. Here is what you can do. Sit with someone that you are comfortable with and with whom you are familiar with the topics that you would usually talk about, or if that is not possible, you can still choose to sit alone while acknowledging people around you, for example, say something like, "Hello", or "I'm sitting right here today". More often than not, people will understand that your need to sit alone is a matter of preference. It is important to remember that you always have the freedom to choose what is best for you and not try
to fit in but it makes you feel out of place. You want to sit alone but also you do not want to be the odd one out.
